Add Value to your Home with Hardwood Floors

Posted on by Maltings Timber Team

The National Wood Flooring Association conducted a survey into the impact of hardwood floors on the value of homes, and 82% of the realtors interviewed stated that not only did the houses with hardwood flooring sell for more money than those without, but often much quicker as well. Although relators often disagree on the exact figures, they all unanimously agree that hardwood flooring does add value to homes and that the initial investment of purchasing and installing wood flooring is always repaid and then some when the house is sold. So, why is it that hardwood flooring can make a property more appealing? This article will outline some of the ways hardwood flooring can attract potential buyers.

The main reason wooden flooring is appealing to potential buyers is that it’s a neutral style. Wood is a timeless and classic interior element because it has universal appeal; it is natural, unique and attractive, and allows potential buyers to view the property as a blank canvas and visualize their own belongings in the house. Wood is also associated with grandeur and class, so having wooden flooring promotes the impression that your home is much more luxurious, and therefore a worthwhile investment.

Wood is a much more durable material than carpeting, especially real wood. Wooden flooring is much less susceptible to damage under heavy furniture and doesn’t mark or stain as easily, whereas carpeting is prone to becoming indented or ripped and scuffed when weighed down. This removes the worry of unexpected damage and repair costs.

Wooden flooring requires very little upkeep. Unlike carpeting, wooden flooring has no fibres for dirt and germs to cling to so doesn’t require everyday cleaning. Simply sweeping or hoovering the floor every week or so will help keep it looking great and, because real wood is sensitive to chemicals and is naturally antibacterial, it requires very little wet cleaning.

Long Lasting

Finally, quality real wood flooring is very long-lasting, and if treated properly can last a lifetime. This is a great positive for homeowners and potential buyers alike because it means that you don’t have to worry about the cost of replacing your flooring and, because wood flooring is a timeless feature, you never have to worry about it going out of style and needing replacing to keep it looking modern.

All in all

All in all, wooden flooring is a great no-fuss flooring option that holds great aesthetic and longevity appeal for your home. Choose good quality wood and install the flooring to a high standard to really have the investment benefit you in the long run, whether you plan to sell your home or not.
